Analysis of the multiple losses in old age that can lead to decreased coping ability including physical and mental illnesses, institutionalism, alcholism and drug abuse and death of a spouse. The relationship between geriatric suicide and euthanasia and the role of the physician in life terminating events is discussed. Numerous case histories are given and the appendix critiques research studies on geriatric suicide. (KB)
