The Therapist’s Personal Reaction to Suicide (IN: The Counsellor and Suicidal Crisis: Diagnosis and Intervention, ed. by J Hipple and P Cimbolic)
Hipple J~~Cimbolic P
The counselor takes a more active role with suicidal, than with other, clients & allows more dependency to develop. The authors suggest introducing significant others into the therapeutic process to wean the client from dependency & to distribute treatment responsibility. They also suggest the counselor talk to other therapists in order to put responsibility in perspective, to ventilate feelings, & to get support for therapeutic actions (including protection from litigation).
