This article examines 3 questions concerning a retrospective study of families where child abuse had occurred or was threatened. Is there a high incidence of attempted suicide among parents in these families; are parents more likely to attempt if they have actually abused & what characterizes these parents. The survey suggests that attempted suicide is relatively common & some parents display agressive behavior toward themselves. There is evidence of psychiatric disturbance & marital disharmony.
