This brief paper decribes two case studies of attempted suicide, classifying them as Malignant Masochism and the Harlequin. The Malignant Masochist makes suicide attempts in an effort to get away from the tension and pain and anxiety of life, whereas the Harlequin makes suicide attempts as the result of being drawn towards death with feelings of erotic pleasure, notably making the Harlequin a significantly higher suicide risk.
