Multiple suicide attempters have been found to be rigid, insecure, immature, shy, sexually maladjusted, socially isolated, intelligent & depressed. Mean age is 22.5. Attempts often occur after interpersonal difficulty. Family reinforces feelings of worthlessness after 3rd attempt. Multiple attempters are mostly neurotic rather than schizophrenic or psychotic. They are more responsive to ECT than psychotherapy. Suicidal behavior could be subdivided further.
