The paper tracks the development of Beck’s Suicide Intent Scales. Constructed is a 20-item schaedule for assessing the intensity of suicide intent. It is a first attempt to develop an adequate instrument that will be available for practical use by professionals & paraprofessionals involved in the detection & assessment of suicidal risk & may also serve as a guide to the families of high-risk cases.
