A study of 50 adolescent suicide attempt patients indicates that physicians can recognize patterns in these potentially suicidal patients. The biographies of the adolescent suicide attempters are characterized by a three stage progression to social isolation: a long-standing history of “problems”, a period of escalation, & a final stage. Authors suggest that physicians use these indicators as a guideline for assessing potentially suicidal adolescents.
