Describes the demographic & psychological characteristics of 108 adolescents who attempted suicide. Subjects were predominantly white, female, & middle class, with a mean age of 15.1 yrs. These suicide attempts were most significantly related to long-term family dysfunction. Some vegetative depressive symptoms were noted in a majority of subjects. Implications are drawn for strengthening the mental health practitioner’s role in detecting and preventing adolescent suicide.
