This article, based on the reports of the Medical Officers of Health, takes a look at cities in the United Kingdom, which are the exception to the norm, where the city with the biggest population does not have the highest rate of suicide. The article discusses the composition of the populations, social class, indices of Social Disorganization, the composition of the suicide samples by sex, age and social class, methods of suicide, and the role of physical illness.
