This study investigated the therapeutic effects of lithium on patients diagnosed with bipolar disorders (BDS). Lithium’s properties, and cell membrane transport were discussed. BDs had low Li-Na countertransport in red blood cells than normals . Similarly, the Na-Ca system in the brain may interact with lithium to disrupt neurotransmitter uptake. Both systems may involve genetic factors. Whether mania is localized or generalized, brain disorder is unknown as this area is speculative.
