The present distribution of suicide according to sex & age compared to 100 years ago suggests that present sociopolitical arrangements have helped many elements of the population, especially the youngest and the oldest and men. Among women 45-55 years old, the suicide rate has increased. One possible explanation is the greater number of divorces. The changes in suicide methods are discussed.
