Examines the attitudes of schizophrenic patients toward death by interviewing 29 hospitalized schizophrenics & 26 normal controls & testing their ego strength, self-esteem & reactions to inevitable situations. As hypothesized, all showed an increase in affect when talking about death, but schizophrenics showed more constriction of affect. Responses to death were similar to responses to unpleasant inevitable events. Qualitative results regarding attitudes toward death are also discussed. (RM)
