Grief reactions vary in degree and kind depending upon the nature of the death involved, but there are features and processes which are common to all. Many experience grief in response to loss other than death (e.g. of a lover or spouse by desertion or divorce): this represents significant loss and so there is some qualitative similarity in the responses.
