This study attempts to determine the effects of the death ofa significant figure. 60 percent of psychiatrists believed that a movement in the direction of greater health or a more effective life adjustment can result from the loss of a significant figure. From further examination of available data, 7 basic factors were discerned as possible explanations for this phenomenom. Case studies that illustrate each of the 7 factors are presented. (6 Refs.)
