The purpose of this paper is to report some strategies & techniques for handling emergency calls from or about suicidal persons, drawing on the experience of the Los Angeles Suicide Prevention Center with approx. 1000 such calls. No attempt was made to review exhaustively all aspects of suicide, but the following questions were considered: What are potential suicides? How is the emergency aspect evaluated? What can be done?
