Studied types of suicidal behavior, e.g. poisoning, drugs, wrist or throat slashing, attempted strangling or jumping, in 100 female psychiatric inpatients. Most showed depressive symptoms with personality defects. 11% appeared predominantly schizophrenic; 29% showed other serious personality disorders; 12 were alcoholics & 9 drug addicts. Almost 1/2 had a childhood loss of 1 or both parents. Some used attempts to achieve reconciliation, acceptance or independence. Describes their personalities.
