Research related to life events has become the focus of the medical, psychiatric, nursing and psychological professions. The purpose of this endeavor is to examine and summarize 1. research evidence addressing the assessment of life events, 2. prominent scales for the measurement of stress in life events and 3. various issues and implications for both clinical and research application. Directions that may emerge in this significant area of nursing research are explored.
