This article looks at the social worker’s role in health & science. Helping the family deal with loss takes on major importance. This is done through an examination of family dynamics. Communication & trust between social worker & patient is also significant in this situation. After a death, the first 6-12 months are most important. Bereaved persons need to talk about the experience & be given any practical help needed until they can start to function again.
