Relationship of Internal-External Control and United States Suicide Rates, 1973-1976

Related suicide rates to the concomitant annual variations in scores on a questionnaire designed to assiss internal vs external locus of control (I-E) obtained from a representative sample. Describes correlations among age groups. Linear or substantial nonlinear fluctuations in suicide rates always were associated with corresponding variations in perceptions of external control. (5 ref)
