Demographic versus Clinical Prediction of Suicidal Behaviors: A Look at Some Issues (IN: The Prediction of Suicide, ed. by A Beck et al)
Lester D
Author provides an overview of basic prediction issues. Current research does not favour use of psychological tests as predictors. For field based services, task oriented interview scales are probably the best available for determining current clinical risk. Demographic information is best used to establish programs for treatment after detection. Author supports continued research in the use of standard prediction tests. (JLH)
