Data is presented on 299 confirmed suicide attempts by means of ingestion of a drug or chemical by adolescents (8-19 years of age) in New York City between 1956 & 1958. Some of the findings were: a high incidence with Puerto Ricans, in broken & disorganized homes, in spring, during adolescence & in medium & low-income groups. The most common place of attempts was at home when no adult was present. There were at least 50 attempts to every completion. (GW)
