Abstract
Clinical and Social Variables Which Differentiate Suicide, Open and Accident Verdicts
Jacobson S~~Bagley C~~Rehin A
Significant others were interviewed in 50 cases certified by the Brighton Coroner in 1970-72. This data was compared with 83 other cases he certified as suicide. Findings validate the criteria on which he bases his decisions. Depression did not differentiate suicide & open cases. Other demographic & clinical factors did vary. Findings suggest that suicide & open verdicts, combined, better approximate the true suicide rate than do suicide verdicts alone.(MB)
