Of 195 consecutive patients who had been admitted to hospital for suicide attempt, 5 died later from a further attempt & 144 were available for a 3 year follow-up study. 29 patients made subsequent attempts. On discharge from hospital psychiatric treatment was carried out & completed in 40.3%, partially completed in 11.1% & 18.8% did not complete treatment. On a self-rating basis, 8% thought they were worse, 32% unchanged & 42% were improved. Continued suicidal activity is noted & discussed.(DD)
