Reports results of a 3-stage cluster analysis of data on 298 patients who attempted suicide. They were allocated to 7 profile types that correlated with 6 outcome variables. Profiles include data on social setting, seriousness of the attempt, judgments about overall functioning, interpersonal conflict & significant others’ input. States that these profiles have prognostic significance as well as implications for the treatment of attempters & education of emotionally involved significant others.
