This investigation is concerned with the relationship of both childhood & antecedent separation to suicide attempts. Three groups of psychiatric patients suicide attempters, patients with suicidal urges, & nonsuicidal patients – were compared. When the population of 120 patients from all the groups were pooled, there was a highly significant interaction between separation experienced between the age of birth and 7 years as compared to all other groupings.
