A retrospective study of psychiatric presentations to emergency rooms in Edmonton, Alta. results showed an increase of 80% in 4 years. Males outnumbered females, average age 21-50 years, alcohol-related problems were up 225%, 73% were discharged. Of those admitted, more were female and most commonly had attempted suicide. Some results conflicted with other studies and more accurate studies were called for. (RW)
