Pederson A M~~Awad G A~~Kindler A R
Used the Monroe County, N.Y. psychiatric case register, a stable data source, to identify factors associated with self-destructive behavior in white & nonwhite groups. The subsequent mortality rate among suicide attempters was also investigated. A number of differences between whites & nonwhites were found, & it is concluded that the motivation for suicide, the techniques used to treat attempts, & the degree of risk of further psychiatric difficulty may be different for the 2 groups.
