The continuing negative response to acceptance of the mentally ill by communities and languages between attitude & behavior are discussed. Two research agendas are recommended: specific research on attitudes & evaluative research on the 2 current approaches described as the collaborative method helping communities to change themselves, & the structural approach utilising legal & social pressures to impose change.
