The conclusion reached by Steele, that his samples of black & white suicide attempters were clinically similar is questioned, as is his inference that his results require a re-examination of the supposed need for separate black & white psychologies. Specific criticisms are raised regarding some of the variables chosen by Steele for his comparisons, and the manner in which he chose to interpret his data.
