Allowing that the concept of childhood depression is controversial, the authors outline the manifestation, assessment, and treatment of depression. The article discusses the particularities of depression as they appear in infants, pre-schoolers, school-age children, and adolescents. Thorough evaluation, including suicidal risk, matched to the child’s developmental level is stressed, in order to diagnose the dimension of the behavior problem.
