Beck’s children’s depression inventory (CDI) was given to 102 children. The interview of child and parents attempted to identify masked depression. It was determined that children with depression can be identified using adult research criteria and that more children with depression could be identified with an interview than by standard evaluation procedures alone. Behavior problems often mask depression which should be identified by an alert clinician.
