Ayd ascribes suicide in adults primarily to depression and alcoholism. Suicide among adolescents and young adults, however, Ayd relates to paranoia, schizophrenia, and impetuous behavior. Risk factors are considered including age, sex, history of suicidal behavior, and the cyclical nature of depression. Implications for recognition and treatment are outlined. (JG)
