Refuting previous studies, the authors posit that the suicide rate for male physicians has not altered in 30 years and is comparable to the matched general population during that period. However, female physicians exhibit a rate 4x that of their matching general population, due possibly to affective disorders. Rate by medical speciality reveals no bias. Suicide method is discussed. Data is derived from 2 year systemic study of A.M.A. records. (1965-1967)
