The Blachly group, composed of 6 professionals, was formed to investigate the high rate of suicide among Oregon physicians placed on probation. During the 13 month period (Jun 76-Jul 77), interviews with surviving family members led the Blachly group to the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners. Among these recommendations were earlier & stronger corrective action, a reduction of the existing 10-yr probationary period, & the use of comprehensive mental health services. (NBB)
