Inequalities in mental health, well-being and wellness in Canada: Social determinants and changes over time
Public Health Agency of Canada
The focus of this report is to provide an overview of mental health inequalities by examining the structural and social determinants of health that contribute to mental health outcomes. The structural determinants of health encompass processes such as economic, and political mechanisms that give rise to disparities in between populations within society. Social determinants of health are the nonmedical factors in our lives that affect our health—where we live; our income, education, job, and access to health care; and our social connections.
