One of the purposes of the International Association for Suicide Prevention is to institute and develop networks across the world to bring together professionals and nonprofessionals in the pursuit of suicide prevention. To facilitate this, there has been a need for the promulgation of guidelines or broad approaches by which suicide prevention could be pursued with certain similarities from country to country, but with due allowance for the individual differences that are so obvious between diverse countries.
