A critical review of a well-known explanation of variations in rates of death by suicide in First Nations communities in British Columbia and a lesser-known explanation of changes in suicide rates in Inuit communities in Nunavut. In both cases author comments on the limited ability to make broad generalizations about suicide behaviour among Indigenous populations based on these flawed findings, and the implications of having only incomplete data to draw upon.
