Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is asking for your feedback regarding the implementation of a 3-digit suicide prevention line for Canada, which would connect people to the existing line at 1-833-456-4566. Until September 21, 2021, you can provide your thoughts on your support for the project, how long implementation should take, whether the service should include text messaging, and anything else you’d like to mention.

Provide your support and feedback for this critical endeavour to make crisis services increasingly accessible!

Centre for Suicide Prevention commends the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) for including the investigation for a 3-digit crisis number in its Departmental Plan, 2021-2022. This number would help Canadians reach existing mental distress hotline services.

Furthermore, we commend the Government of Canada for pledging to ensure the necessary funds are available for this project and for the hotline itself in the April 19, 2021 Federal Budget (Department of Finance Canada, 2021, p. 71).
