The Centre for Suicide Prevention IS NOT A CRISIS CENTRE. If you are suicidal or concerned about someone...
The Centre for Suicide Prevention (CSP) is an education centre specializing in curriculum development; training programs; library and information services. The purpose of the Centre is to inform and equip people with additional knowledge and skills in the prevention of suicide.
The Centre began in 1981 as the Suicide Information and Education Centre (SIEC) operating the SIEC Library. The following year Suicide Prevention Training Programs (SPTP) was added to its mandate. In 2005 the Centre was re-named and incorporated as the Centre for Suicide Prevention under the auspices of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). CSP is a “one-of-a kind“ specialized program of the CMHA.
The Centre for Suicide Prevention is governed by an elected Board of Directors. The current Board is comprised of eight Directors who bring to the table a variety of professional expertise and personal experience. This includes three family members who have experienced the suicide death of a child or sibling. Other Directors have experienced the suicide death of a work colleague or student. The professional background of various Board Directors represents corporate law, journalism, computer software, education at both high school and university levels, the funeral industry, the oil industry, and the not-for-profit sector.
