Suicide Prevention Training Programs

The Centre for Suicide Prevention has been delivering a variety of high quality and practical skill development workshops across Canada since 1983.  With access to a widespread trainer network (over 100 trainers in Alberta alone) we can provide training anywhere!

Whether you are working with a suicidal person or trying to develop a suicide prevention strategy for your community, addressing suicide is a real challenge. We know however, that suicide can be prevented.

The goal of the Centre for Suicide Prevention (CSP) is to provide skill training that increases caregiver competence and confidence while improving community collaboration. We teach prevention because prevention is the only solution to suicide.

The Centre for Suicide Prevention is here to help!

Consultations:  CSP staff will help you determine which workshop will best meet your training objective.  As the needs of the community in crisis are quite different from one focusing on prevention activities, we will help you design a training strategy that is appropriate to your situation.

Our Workshops:  Workshop content is based on adult learning principles and combines current mental health research with field based best practices.   These workshops provide opportunities for reflection, discussion and practice and can be offered to the general public or as private staff in-service training.

Our Trainers:  Our trainers offer extensive experience in the field of suicide and undergo intensive training before becoming certified trainers with CSP.  Their experience combined with high quality standardized training materials ensures that our trainers are well equipped to teach the material and respond to participant’s learning needs.

Our Colleagues:  CSP is a specialized branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association.  We are members of the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention.  We work with organizations to promote awareness and collaborate with communities to create relevant training programs.  Please contact us if your organization is interested in partnering with us.
